Q: How do I replace the battery in my remote to my 2001 nissan altima?
A: Chances are the local jewelery store that sells watches will have the battery you need--they are special and a bit hard to find without knowing EXACTLY what you need--the jeweler should put it in for you like replacing a wristwatch battery. If not--try the dealership.good luck.
Q: 2001 nissan altima electric trunk pops open on its own sometimes?
when it does open on its own it seems to do it alot in say one hour, then it doesn`t do it for a day or two. has anyone had this problem, thank you for any help.
A: Check the transmitter then check the trunk latch, the spring mechanism maybe goin out. If thats the problem, don't try and fix it, just go to a salvage yard and buy other one for about 10.00, it should only take a couple minutes to change it out.
Q: I own a 2001 Nissan Altima. How do I remove the c/d radio player to install a new one?
I have gone online and all the intruction manuals I have found are those you have to buy. Any free ones out there??
A: doesn't the shop which you buy the new set provide the service of removing the old and installing the new?
leave it to the pro, as a mistake in the electrical connection may cause your car to mul-function.
Q: 2001 Nissan Altima shakes then shuts off randomly?
I have a 2001 Nissan Altima. I went to get an oil change and the check engine light was on. Whenever I stop the car shakes. The mechanic that did the oil change said he hooked it up to the computer and the computer said, something about a misfire on spark plug 4. He said that I needed to change my 4th spark plug. I changed all 4 instead of just 1, however the car continued to shake when it stopped, even tho the car shook before, it never cut off until I changed the spark plugs (today). I'm freaking out, what could be causing this?
Are the wires expensive? IS THE SHAKING AND SHUTTING OFF DEFINATELY CAUSED BY THE SPARK PLUG AREA? I changed all the plugs. Where do I get the wires? Can I go to autozone or strauss to get these wires?
I'm pretty sure the oil dipstick is back in.
What's a catalic converter and/or and 02 censor? what does it/do they do?
I emailed you the last train.
@ the last train- Did your car ever shut off when it was shaking during idling?
A: well godo news is it all adds up misfiring chamber equals shakey unstable engine. The other post is probably right dont' just replace the plug, also replace the wire, and plug cap. I suggest getting a spark gap tester and actually testing the spark so you can actually figure out what the problem is sintead of just guessing.
Q: how much should it cost to reapir a bent subframe of a 2001 Nissan Altima?
I hit a curb. BaCK passenger wheel is bent. I want to have an idea before i get it fixed.
A: More than the car is worth. Buy American next time!
Q: Is 87 grade gasoline good for a 2001 nissan altima gxe?
Or should I be using 89 or 91? Oh! And what gas station is the best to you? Chevron? Valero? Mobil? Arco?
A: Like most cars, it only requires 87.
Most gas stations are the same, but stay away from the cheapo unknown gas stations.
Q: How do improve my gas mileage? I have a 2001 Nissan Altima GLE that only gets around 20 mpg.?
Seventy five percent of my driving is city miles. It's a four cylinder car that runs well but I think the gas mileage should be better.
A: You just said what the problem is. City driving. Mileage also drops several mpg in the winter.
Some things that can help is make sure your wheels are aligned, make sure the tire pressure is correct, take out all the stuff in your car you dont need, accelerate and brake slower.
Q: Where is the thermal load flasher on a 2001 nissan altima?
I'm helping my friend fix a problem he had with the blinkers on his dash. We needed to change out the thermal load flasher, but I have no idea where it is on the dash. Please help, I don't know anything about nissans.
A: Under the dash near the steering column.
It will be obvious once you see the new one.
Q: How do I replace bulb in high mount brake light on 2001 Nissan Altima?
I've been trying to figure this out for weeks and the Nissan manual is useless. I can detach the entire assembly, but I can't open it to get at the bulb. Also, the wire prevents me from doing much with it once it's loose. Ugh, so annoying when it should be a simple thing to do.
A: it should twist and pull out of the back of the tail light if you are having trouble, then go to a parts place and ask them about it and curse the manual a lot and complain that it was written by foreigners who must have been engineers or something. that makes them laugh and they can do it for you.
Q: What are the possible reasons for my 2001 nissan altima drop in mpg?
My mileage dropped last year and I got a tuneup in August 2006, ( I got a corresponding increase in mpg after). Now I've got the same problem but worse. My mpg has dropped from about 23 mpg to about 11 mpg. No check engine light, I did just replace the alternator as the old one was sucking the life out of my battery but the mpg problem was there before that. Any ideas?
A: any of the altimas like yours with the KA42DE (or KA24E for the older cars) have a problem keeping intake manifold gaskets and lower injector seals in them. Goto a parts store, buy a can of brake cleaner. run your engine at idle and spray from the right side to the left side of the back of the engine slowly. if the engine stalls anywhere you spray, take it to a Nissan Dealer and have them replace the intake manifold gasket and all the lower injector seals.
Q: Why does my 2001 Nissan Altima engine surge when at idle?
When at a stop sign, the car surges forward repeatedly. When I put my foot on the accelerator it seems to calm the surging temporarily. What could be causing this?
A: Wow odd because I have a 2001 Nissan Altima GXE Limited Edition (hopefully that will change by the end of this week though).
I would be very surprised if it is the exact same thing, but I had a similar problem. I am used to the car's fan turning on loudly or it to raise or lower its RPM while stopped for a while, but a couple months back I had a bigger problem.
When I was stopped at a light or a stop sign for more than 5-10 seconds the RPM guage would jump up about 500 RPM sporadically. This would continue once every two seconds until I accelerated, at which point it was gone. This happened a few times but it became much much more frequent until it was everytime I stopped. Also it was happening worse and worse over time.
What really annoyed me about this problem was that as it was surging up and down the car was kind of lunging with it a bit. If I was reversing out of my driveway it was like I kept tapping hte break or something because the entire car would be lunging with this surge in RPM.
Finally I got it checked out and the news was not good. It was a leaky intake valve. The valve was leaking air so when we were stopped it was pumping the air in, but some was escaping causing the car to sputter and lunge and do crazy things. It is VERY IMPORTANT that you get it checked out because if it is the same problem then it could be a catastrophic repair if the valve breaks. To just fix it, it is still not going to be cheap. Expect $800-1000. I hope this is not the issue, but they sound very similar.
My 01 altima is having more and more problems (not as huge as this one, only around $500) so I am getting rid of it within a couple of week. It has 95,000 miles on it and it is not doing well at all. My girlfriend has the identical car (by accident not by design) with 47,000 miles on it and it is doing fine (even though the few repairs it needs are big ones). I'm just saying that I wouldnt throw huge amounts of money in the car after a while.
Sorry to ramble. If you do get it diagnosed please let me know what it is as I am curious. Even if I dont get best answer if you could add it in. Thanks and best of luck :-)
Q: Is is worth buying a 2001 Nissan Altima GXE with 130000 miles?
I found one for $4500 - one owner, well-maintained... If it weren't for the mileage I'd buy it right away, but that high mileage makes me a bit wary. How well do Nissan's continue to perform once the mileage gets that high?
A: Nissan's are at the upper end of reliability. If this was a Ford, I would say, no way. You definitely want to CarFax the vehicle's VIN to make sure nothing is being hidden from you. The key here is that having that many miles in such a short time typically is a result of highway driving which is a lot less cumbersome on a vehicle than city miles. If this was a 1997 or 98 vehicle, you would have to assume those miles were mostly city miles which are harder on a car. I would recommend you get it to a trusted mechanic as well to have him look for any head gasket leaks or signs of excessive wear that would indicate the need for immediate repairs. Once he has a look and gives his blessing you should be ok for many more miles on this car....
Q: how do you remove nissan altima 2001 axel?
how do you remove nissan altima 2001 axel from the transmission. i have removed the wheel, drum and all the good stuff but cant get it out of the transmission. the drive shaft is kind of locked on the transmission. pliz help before i grab my hammer to smack the shish out of it.
A: I reccomend the two large screwdriver pry methiod. Place both drivers on each side of the inner joint and pry. Manual gear goxes will leak 2 quarts of oil out onto the driveway automatic trans cars only leak out a few drops.
Q: Is a 2001 Nissan Altima a reliable car?
I found a 2001 Nissan Altima for $4500 it has 118000 miles on it. I thought it was a good deal and was ready to buy, than some friends started telling me that Altimas are bad cars they need belts changed every certain amount of miles and always has problems. Wanted to know if anyone knows anything about Altimas or has heard the same thing.
A: they are usually pretty reliable, except ones with 2.4L engines have the tendency to have problems with timing chain tensioners coming apart and throwing the timing off.
in a shop it is over an 11 hour job at $65+ an hour
as for the belts, belts are a wear item on all vehicles

You guys are awesome...just found it. Thanks
A: The inside of the drivers side door- should be right by the VIN #...
