Q: what kind of oil do i use for a 1998 nissan frontier?
A: I would suggest a good 10w-40 oil. The Nissan specs say you can use 5w-30 or a 10w-30. If the motor has not had synthetic or semi synthetic used by now, than I would stick to the Dino oil and not switch now.
Q: 1998 Nissan Frontier truck?
My husband has a 1998 4 wheel drive Frontier truck with 215,000miles on it. He attempted to start the truck and nothing happened. I don't think it's the starter because it won't so anything when he start's it and he tested the alternator and battery and it's good? Does anyone have any sugggestions on the problem? Thanks.
A: Ignition switch maybe? Inhibitor relay bad? Clutch pedal switch?

Q: how do i get more power out of a 1998 Nissan frontier?
4 cyl standard
A: I'd start, by making sure the engine is in proper working order, and not leaking any fluids. Once your engine is dry, give it a tune up with, new NGK plugs, Wires, Distributor cap and rotor. Then install a K&N FIPK kit and filters (air/oil). Get yourself a new fuel filter. Change all the fluids (Oil, Trans, Differential, and transfer case if applicable) to synthetic such as Royal Purple, or Redline. If you have the cash left after that, see if there is decent turbo kit for your engine, a 3" turbo should be adequate. Or if you'd like to be a little more unique, go for a supercharger, They run a little hotter, but are more user friendly for do it yourselfers. After all that cash is spent, you can think about the quick and easy horsepower booster, Nitrous.
Q: How do I replace the driver's window in my 1998 Nissan truck?
Someone broke the driver's side window in my 1998 Nissan Frontier pick-up truck. It does not have power windows. How hard would it be for me to replace the window myself if I buy the glass? How would I do it?
A: Take off the door panel. The window will be attached at two points to the regulator (the mechanical lifting device). (I don't specifically know about the Frontier without looking at it, but most applications are similar.) Anyway, roll down the window to where you can access those two bolts and unbolt what's left of the window. Remove the old window. Don't forget to run a screwdriver down the tracks to clean out any glass stuck in the tracks. Slide the new window down into the track from the window opening. You may have to angle the window down to get it to start. Don't drop the glass! Bolt the new window to the window regulator. Don't forget to vacuum out the broken glass from bottom of the door. P.S. The job is easier with two people.
Q: I had a diagnostic check of my 1998 Nissan Frontier when my check engine light came on...?
I had a diagnostic check of my 1998 Nissan Frontier when my check engine light came on. The test narrowed it down to three things: Mass Air Sensor, Throttle Position Sensor, and Idle Air Control valve. I can do some things on a car, so I was just wondering if how hard these were to get to and check and if need be, replace? Thanks
Even with these possible diagnosis, the car shows no symptoms I can tell. Does not run bad or anything like that. No different than always...
A: all the sensors you listed are easy to reach all can be tested i would check for a vaccum leak first though
Q: in dash wiring diagram for a 1998 nissan frontier?
hooking up a cd player and no diagram has been rite yet
no diagram has worked yet. says there are colors in dash that are not there
A: As sparky said it is a good idea to get a harness. But if you must know...http://www.the12volt.com/installbay/stereodetail/1615.html
Double check power with a test light.
Q: I have a 1998 Nissan Frontier ---air bags lights started flashing, started missing, now won't start ???
Does anyone know what this could be?!?
A: Sounds like warning system was acting up because the alternator is not charging the battery. Hook up a battery charger in a hour or two see if that allows you to start the truck. Either the alternator has stopped charging or something has blown the alternator fuse or fuseable link at the battery Positive post.
Q: I have a 1998 Nissan Frontier that stalls out when stopped and hesitates when driving.?
It's manual transmission, 4 cylinder engine. Problem started suddenly. When coming to a stop and while idling the engine will try to stall then idle up and then sometimes stall out completely. Also while driving the engine will hesitate like it's not getting enough fuel. This only seems to happen after having driven a few miles, not at first start up. I took it to a mechanic who changed the fuel filter and replaced the fuel pump. I still have the same problem. Any Ideas????
What's a MAF Sensor?
This vehicle has no timing belt...
Also had a tune up not so long ago. This is a recent and rather sudden development.
Jimmy, Thanks.
The mechanic I went to ran the computer diagnostic test. Wouldn't that check most of what you recommended. I am thinking maybe I got a bad tank of fuel ...any thoughts. I am just trying to arm myself with some ideas before I return to the mechnic and wind up paying for more needless repairs.
A: first off a MAF sensor is the mass air flow sensor it tells your vehicle how much air is flowing into the engine and how fast so your vehicle can adjust the amount of fuel its pumping into the cylinder in order to maintain a stoichiometric air fuel ratio. but if that's not your problem i would also check your idle air control motor, and manifold absolute pressure sensor, and less likely but likely the same it could be the fuel injectors. these things are simple to test on most vehicles, but i don't have a whole lot of experience on Nissan's.
Q: 1998 Nissan Frontier XE Speedometer Question?
I want to put slightly larger wheels on my truck, so I can mount offroad tires to them. My truck currently has 15 inch wheels, and I need to put 16 or 17 in wheels on my truck for the tires. Once I do that, where do I go to get the speedometer redone? How would I make it correct again?
A: there are different size gears for the spedometer drive in the transmission tail shaft housing and electronic devices to adjust the speed signal. Most of my customers get used to the spedo running more normal most read 10% fast larger tires slow sown the speed reading it might turn out ok if not get the gears for the same model xterria or pathfinder with 16" or qx4 infinity with 17' wheels
Q: I need help with changing the brake light on my Nissan Frontier 1998 model?
I have a bed liner that may be blocking access to the screws which I believe are on the inside of the truck bed.
A: Wow! Good question. We have a '00 with the spray on linex liner and I looked all over the truck and couldn't figure it out. Finally looked in the owner's manual (page 8-31) and it shows to remove the (2) bolts in the side of the bed just forward of the tailgate. (Which the linex guys sprayed over, of course) If you have a hard liner they may be hidden. They're located about away 2" from the face of the tailgate when it's closed. you might find this helpfull too. http://www.nissan-techinfo.com/nissan/
Q: How do I remove a knock sensor from a 1998 Nissan Frontier?
We checked the Haynes manual and it told us nothing on how to remove the sensor. This is a 1998 SE 4WD 2.4L. Does anyone have any ideas?
A: on my chevy the knock sensor is screwed in the block and is inthe cooling system. so i have to partially drain it when i change it. I guess yours screws in just like mine.
But it would be best if you went out and got a replacement first. then just look at the new one.
Q: where is the speed sensor on a 1998 nissan frontier?
i also need to know how one becomes bad. i am having to replace one on my truck it is a 2 wheel drive so if you can send me in the direction of a diagram that would be very nice
A: the speed sensor of what? are you talking about the rpm?
Q: 1998 Nissan Frontier guages malfunctioning?
The heat needle goes to full hot and stays when starting. The tachometer reads 500 rpm when running regardless of true rpm. Odometer reads 99999, but trip odometer works. Speedometer totally erratic. Anyone know what is wrong? Truck is running fine otherwise, although service engine light soon is on, but it has been for long time.
A: You did not state that the transmission acts weird it is a automatic? Your needing a instrument cluster All or part have a Nissan tech diagnosis it. You might come across the same model in a wrecking yard. Of course your odometer may have to be reprogramed (spedo shop) about $ 25. The Code is most likely PO-500 speed sensor.
Q: How do i remove the shift knob off a 1998 Nissan Frontier?
I want to put a different shift knob on my shifter. But i cant get the stock shift knob off of it. 1998 Nissan Fronter 4WD 5-Speed Manual Transmission.
A: It should just unscrew.. If Not see if there is a small srew on the shifter knob..
