Q: putting rims on car!!!?
I have a 1987 nissan maxima I just got it painted all black 2 weeks ago. I wanted to get some rims for them. My tire size is p195/65R15. Will any 15 inch rim fit for these tires or do I have to get new tires.???

A: No you don't need to get new tires, but if you want that low profile look and better handlings, you should switch to (195/60/15).

Q: help me with this car!!?
I have a 1987 nissan maxima. I know its old but im going to pimp it out. I got the car for free from my uncle so i have money to invest in it. What is the biggest rim i could put on it??? 20, 18,16 should i go with the 15's??? I'm not trying be too flashy

A: the biggest? 26's i guess seriously, i wouldn't go any bigger than 18 otherwise it would be considered "rice" if you are going for the riced out look you could go 20 it definitely depends on the rim though, some rims look nice at certain sizes edit: 15's are okay, but 16's would also be okay once again, depends on the rim you get, sport rims look good at 15'' while others...

when i start it, the engine vibrates like no tommorow. it is automatic trans. but when it shifts gear it shakes like an old manual 1987 Honda Accord. i was backing up from a parking lot, and it started vibrating so badly, i could see the hood of the car shaking up and downup to an inch. Maybe sell?

A: this could be any number of problems...but it sounds like it has a miss...or a dead cylinder. It could be something as simple as bad spark plugs and/or spark plug wires or something more complex such as a burnt valve. The thing to do is first pull the spark plugs...you will be able to tell by looking at them which cylinder is not fireing. while you have the plugs run a compression check....if the compression is consistent in all cylinders then you should replace the plugs and wires. If you have low compression in one cylinder..sorry it will need major repairs.

Q: A friend changed my oil and transmission fliud and now my car doesn't run right. What is the problem?
My friend volunteered to change the oil, but he had also changed the transmission fluid. I noticed that when the car came to a stop that the car would start shaking and then it wouldn't accelaerate even though the RPM's would go. I would have to shut off the car and restart it for it to move. I also noticed that the oil level on the 1987 Nissan Maxima was low and when it would come to a stop, the oil level would go down further, but when I did get teh car to accelearte it would move back up. I initially thought it might have been that he either put the wrong type of motor oil or did not put enough motor oil. Is there a car expert who can tell me what this might be?

A: It sounds like he messed it up for you. Don't start the car anymore, look in the manual and find out what type and brand of fluids you need, then change it again.

Q: My trunk leaks on my 1989 Nissan Maxima. Anyone experienced please advise on how to fix this problem.?
This is the second Nissan Maxima I'ved owned with the same problem. The first was a 1987 Maxima. Both are in tip top shape. It's got me baffled truly. I've refrained from putting woofers and an amplifier in my trunk because of the leakage. PLEASE ADVISE !!!!!

A: more then likely, you need an replacement rubber that goes around the top of the trunk, that forms a seal. The rubber could have bene pinched ot torn somehow..look at it and you should see if its worn. Good Luck

Hello! My 1987 Nissan Maxima's speedometer is misbehaving. It does not always read the correct speed. It will sit at zero, slowly flutter up near the speed I am going and then slowly go back down to zero. When I accelerate it falls straight back down to zero. Sometimes letting off of the gass peddle prompts it to spring back up, sometimes not. When it sits down at zero it makes this angry click click click noise. The transmission seems to have a harder time shifting when the speedometer is misbehaving. The problem is slowly getting worse.

A: Sounds like your speedo cable is streched real bad or completely busted. Have it checked out at the garage but it should be alright once the cable is replaced

A: Look under the trunk lid there may be a lable with 4 digit code, also try the glove box. If its not there, try the manual if you still have it. Last restore is the dealer.

I am a fan of Nissan, particularly the Maxima. I owned a 1987 Nissan Maxima SE and while it was not a marque for style,it was the pique of dependability and performance and luxury. As of late, 2004 onwards, I have seen many negative reviews on the first American built Nissan Maxima. Will the 2009 series be built in the US or will manufacture resume in Japan? I love Maximas but refuse to buy American.

A: Give USA a chance the 2004 to 2006 were ok in terms of dependability. 2007 and 2008 restyled ones even better reliablity and better looking. This next Maxima is on display at the Dallas Auto show next week and it too is american made. More News to come. (rumors abound about the V-8) Japan cars imported include the 350Z, GTR and The Murano.

A: Good choice...depending on condition and mileage, the retail price range could be anywhere from $1800 to $3000. In older cars, condition is everything! Consider what you will need to spend on the car after purchase and insurance costs, etc., before jumping on it.

changed the coil and still nothing Thanks Jeff It's A 6 cyl. I kind of suspected the timing. Mr. Lance I Have a 02 Silverado, 72 chevy stepside, 80 chevy c-10, and the wife drives and 05 clk do you need a car.

A: Possible that the timing belt is bad. Is this a 4 cyl. or v-6. There is a cam sensor and a crank sensor...if they aren't in time, the computer will not allow it to fire. Check the timing and the two sensors. Good luck.

I already purchased a new igintion switch from auto zone but i dont have the key cause im a dumba*s and i lost them. Silly me. Anyhow Im not sure if i should force the switch to the start position so i can get to the pin and push it up or what i should do help me please. .............ten points for the best answer of course.

A: Locksmith. Once you pay him for this, he could have made you another key cheaper from the door lock cylinder. Take back the switch and just go to the locksmith. If you know how to open up the door panel and take out the cylinder, it will be even cheaper.

Q: 1987 Nissan Maxima cranks very fast but will not start?
I recently ran out of gas. I put gas in it, it ran fine. Went out later and put more gas in it, and it stalled and will not start back up. I keep running the battery down. With jumper cables, it will crank but it is real fast but it will not start. It is getting spark: checked coil with pliers, it's getting fuel, I replaced the rotor button and cap, but still no start. Any ideas?? Rotor button turns.

I was recently given a Nissan Maxima and I was told the timing belt went out. I then heard from someone else that the valves were most likely ruined. What should I do? I mean, to get it all fixed and all.

A: If timing belt went out, then the engine is pretty much screwed and you can have problems there. Have to get that done on them cars. Get it look at ASAP or you're car will be jeopardized.
