Q: fuel line hose repair?
I have a Nissan Maxima 1988. A rubber hose by the back left wheel is apparently old because it has cracked at the end and leaked fuel twice within the last year. Each time, I cut the bad part of the hose, repositioned, and re-fastened the hose. I cannot replace the hose without taking out the gas tank and everything else which I dont want to do. Can I couple a new piece of hose to the existing one using a piece of copper tubing or plastic tubing that would fit inside/outside of the hose? I don't want to have the hose fall apart on me or block the fuel flow.
A: Let me get this straight. You're driving around with a decaying fuel line because you "don't want to" replace it. At least drive alone so some innocent person doesn't have to spend the rest of their short but agonizing lives covered in third degree burns next to you.

Q: Problems with shifting gears?
Another question. Nissan Maxima 1988. Automatic transmission.
1. When shifting from park to drive, the car does not actually shift sometimes. It just stays in park until i jiggle the handle pretty good or overshift into another gear and then backup. This started a few months ago. What could be causing it?
2. When I got the car (used) the other gears (2 and 3 i think) worked but made the car heave pretty bad when shifting(which i found out is characteristic of maxima 88). But the problem is that now when i shift to these gears, nothing happens at all. It's as if im still in regular drive. Any one know what the problem could be?
A: Start simple....Take a look at the shifter's linkage to the transmission, may be out of adjustment or worn out.
Q: 1988 Nissan Maxima?
When driving my 1988 Maxima the brake gets hard to push. I have already put on new brake calipers and a front line. How can I fix this?
A: A caliper and or brake hose wont cause the brakes hard to push. You most likely have a problem with the power booster. I'd take it to a reputable repair facility asap and have it checked out by a professional.

Q: 1988 nissan maxima ,, doesn't seem to be shifting into 4th gear even with the overdrive button pushed in ?
I heard that the overdrive control is temperature sensitive ... it's been like 5 degrees here lately could that have something to do with it ? Shall I wait until it warms up a little and see what happens ? thanks
A: Start simple. Always. When was the last time you checked your transmission fluid? And in temperatures that low, I would suggest always giving your vehicle a chance to warm up before driving. At least 15 minutes before leaving.
