Q: does anybody know anything about the bose system in the 1991 nissan maxima?
its my friends car, he bought it used, the old owner installed a sony 10 disc changer. when my friend bought the car there was no sleeve for the changer, and the back speakers didnt work just buzzed. so i hooked up his speakers to my car and they work just fine.then i cut the wires between the rear speaker and the box thing they come out of and hooked those wires strait to the speaker, and it worked. then i was checking wires for the back right speaker and touching different ones together, then all of the sudden the front speakers dont work. can anybody help???

A: The Bose amplifiers are attached to the speakers. It's possible (with an after-market deck) to disconnect the amp and connect the audio source wires directly to the speakers, bypassing the amp. However, the other wires going into the amplifier are power wires. You probably shorted the amplifier power wires, resulting in a blown fuse. That's why the front speaker amplifiers aren't working. Check your vehicle's fuse box.

Q: Whats wrong with my 1991 Nissan Maxima?
Theres a miss in one of the cylinders. Ive replaced the spark plugs cap and roter and it still has a miss. It seems to run smoother at higher rpms. What else can cause this?

A: You need to check for proper tension on your timing chain(s). If this is the multivavle engine, you have 3 timing chains and 3 timing chain tensioners. Usually, the chain and tensioner closest to the radiator is the one that acts up. There is a re-engineered factory part for the tensioner. The same thing happened to me. All timing chains in this engine are kept taught be oil pressure. If a tensioner gets full of muck from bad engine oil, the chain stays loose at low speeds and can keep your plugs from firing correctly, or even can damage the plug tips. You should totally de-sludge your engine and switch to synthetic oil (Mobil One) Also, clean thoroughly your throttle body, PCV valve and PCV hose. Also, the idle air control valve. You may require a Haynes or Bentley manual to accomplish these goals. E-mail me, if you like, with the best de-sludge procedure. Be sure to use gas with high detergent rating!!!!

A: If you have a gas smell there will be either a gas leak or vapor leak. Sounds like the shop you were at is not intelligent enough to diagnose it. I would take it to another shop that employs emission specialists so you can determine the source of the leak.

Q: I need a website with step by step instructions on how to replace a factory stereo in a 1991 nissan maxima?
I cant figure out how to get the faceplate/ where the heater n stuff is off without scratching it. its got leather interior and i dont wanna mess it up tryin to put a frigin cd player in it. Ima also need a website for the wiring configuration on it too... please help, i cant stand not havin my cds!! if your answering and u know what im talkin about, its got a BOSE speaker system in it!!, but... it looks like somebody has replaced the back speakers but if i turn it up its gets real staticy... somebody please help... im not sure if the front speakers have been replaced, i havent taken the doors off yet...

A: I just did this on a Nissan Frontier. There is a website that has help for older stuff for free. Google it and you'll find it. There's other sites that sell stuff. It was all early 90's Nissans. My advice. Just look around the heater, pull out any drawers/ ash trays and look for any exposed screw heads. Look around the shifter. Remove those and with a study plastic pry bar...or something metal you might use to get off a bicycle tire (no sharp edges) just work around the edges of any panels. You'll have to be firm. Eventually something will pop loose and then the whole thing should come apart after you remove a few more screws that become exposed. Remove some more screws to get the radio chasis out, then you'll have to be forceful to remove the electrical connections from the back of the radio. As far as the electrical connections, I'd go with any info you have on your new system. Just be aware that you will have a secondary power source to run the clock. Not sure if you will need any new connectors. I didn't have to replace anything, but I was just servicing the old radio unit so I don't know. Plan on a day when you won't need to drive for a couple of hours. I think the website was www.installdr.com

A: If you really want a flowmaster exhaust, first off flowmaster mufflers come in different chamber models for flow and sound, choose how loud you want it, two or three chamber mufflers and buy or order a 2 inch in and 2 inch out or a 2 1/2 in and a 2 1/2out you may need a reducer pipe to fit to your current exhaust, take your flowmaster muffler to a muffler shop and have them replace and weld in the flowmaster muffler after all its the muffler not the pipe you need and you will have flowmaster sound, if your looking for a full exhaust for a decent price try Pacesetter Hedders they do mail orders and i would go Hedders with full Exhaust that would be alot better than a flowmaster system also try Stillen motorsports they made parts for Maxima's from Exhaust to Body kits also try the Maxima forums and or NICO (nissan Infinti car org) or if moneys no object Borla has a Stainless Steel Exhaust, and if you really want pertomance buy a turbo kit for your car, seen turbo'd 1991's on the Maxima sites, very nice cars, im in the NICO club Hope this info helps you out.

I took off the struts with no problem . I need to compress the spring another 1 1/2" to screw the top nut back on . Why is this so difficult ? A: Harder that you thought and you need to get to work on Monday. Many times auto supply stores have a better spring compressor and they will swap out your shocks. For a Price$ rear springs however are much easier. You need two people one to push the spring pearch and one to start the nut. You are just experencing the regular problem of the five coil loops there is not much spring to grab and the bottom spring pearch gets in the way.
