Q: Why would the expense be greater on 1994 maxima?
I need the front struts replaced on 1994 nissan maxima. Dealer quote was $600 and individual shop $400. They are quoting 5 hrs labor. I was told to replace a strut it only takes and hr or hr 1/2 each side. Why is there such a big difference on this model? These quotes include the parts, labor and alignment.

A: Those quotes are ok. The dealer quote is always higher. But the price is ok on both of them, tho in the case of the individual shop, it is surprisingly low.

Q: 1994 Nissan Maxima question?
I have a 1994 Nissan Maxima automatic transmission. The shift selector box is damaged .Whereas the signals that say PRND are no longer on the box. I can use the box just fine form memory but with others they have trouble identifying which hear they are in . Does anyone know where I can find a replacement signal indicator or do I need to replace the complete box?

A: you find these in junk yards all the time, plus if you've never been to one its a statement to American exuberance to visit one.

Q: The heat in my 1994 Nissan Maxima doesn't work.?
When I turn the heat on in the car all that blows is air with whatever temperature it is outside. The a/c works just fine. What could the problem be?

A: could be fan motor, is it blowing cold air? could just be thermostat

Q: where can i find a diagram of a 1994 nissan maxima on the internet?
for a engine

A: what type of diagram you looking for?

Q: is there a way to reset the door key code for my 1994 Nissan Maxima?
ive made the alarm go off too many times. is there a website or book?

A: CT is Pretty close. on Key Pad push button cars the number you want is on the A pillar right of the glove box. Remove the glove box look right there is the digital touch module on it is a five digit code number. Does your car beep and the key pads still light up? if they do enter the fixed code off off the box and then a long beep is heard during that long beep enter your own code press lock and see if it now now you can press the lock it locks then see if you enter your code try unlock then roll down the windows and operates the sunroof if equip. Sorry I don't know any old timers like me who remember those door handle buttons who have a web site or wrote a book yet. Owners manual is pretty vague if I remember correctly

Q: Is a 1994 Nissan Maxima with 177K a good deal if it just needs a transmission rebuild and they are asking $700
My husband thinks the mileage is too high and that the engine will be the next thing to go. If we put about $1200-1500 into a tranny rebuild...would that still be a good deal? I'm hearing the engines on these cars can go for a long time. The rest of the car is immaculate.

A: Do not buy a car you cannot drive. Because the suspension was bouncy and loose and the engine was misfiring and then the trans went out now the car sits. If you have another parts donnor car that may be a good deal. 1995 and earlier VG-30 motors were ok but cams were driven with a timing belt. Here is what i have found there are not many trans rebuilders that can make that trans work properly. If you find a reman trans with warranty also replace the radatior because the trans oil cooler may have metal or plugged up from the old trans.

Q: What american made engines would fit a 1994 nissan maxima? I would like to put a small block v-6?
I know there would have to be some trany and rear end changing but I would love to be able to just light up the rear end with a beefy suspension and a motor that sounds like a GTO.

A: The 1994 Maxima is a Front Wheel Drive vehicle, this would make "lighting" the rear end up quite difficult. Also you are going to be hard pressed to find an American v-6 with a GTO sound, In my personal opinion Japanese V-6's are better sound than American, but US wins in V8. I would sell the car if you are looking for something Rear Wheel drive, because converting that vehicle is not worth the effort. A good RWD 4 door is the Lincoln LS( and YAY a 4.6l V8) these in 5spd are relatively inexpensive. The VG30 you have in that car is a pretty torquey little motor, but it will never burn the rear tires!

Q: I am looking for a shifter cable for a 1994 Nissan Maxima?
automatic single overhead cam. We are in the SE Nebraka area and are trying to find one used. I was hoping someone would know of some local junkyards in northern Kansas or SE Neb. We've been to both Watts's, Smith Auto, the ones in Fairbury and Lincoln. Any gems out there we haven't heard of yet? Thanks for your help.

A: Check our www.car-part.com. It's by far the greatest parts website I've ever heard of. It's a huge network of junkyards, and offers you a location, phone number, price, etc. Most will pull the part for you and ship it wherever you'd like, too!

Q: I have a 1994 nissan maxima and i just installed 2 6 x9 speakers and only one works. Can n e body help?
I also put in 2 5 1/4 front door speakers they play really low

A: There is lots that could be wrong, the fastest way is to find someone you know who knows about car audio and when they find the problem, reward them with taco bell. But if you want to learn something, do it yourself. Is the head unit factory? is it Bose or non-bose? (bose head unit means there is an amplifier on each channel also, that may have gone bad) Is there a problem in the cable? if you have a micrometer you can see if you are getting a signal through the wire. did the back speakers work before you replaced them? and were the front speakers louder before you replaced them? are you sure that you didnt short any wires together when you installed the little plug for your speakers?

Q: what kind of car stereo system can i get for my 1994 Nissan maxima good sound but cheap?
it is a father's day gift for my husband the only thing is i'm on a fixed income please help......

A: It's kind of a hard question to answer. Just a stereo and some new speakers, or are you going with amps and subwoofers? Anything Alpine is really good quality at a descent price. I also like JL Audio at least for their quality even in their low end subwoofers and amps. Stay away from Sony unless your budget is really that low. And if it is Pioneer is at least better than Sony in my opinion. You can always go to a stereo shop or a place like Best Buy or Fryes Electronics and say what you are looking for and exactly what you want to spend and most of the time they will lead you in the right direction.

Q: How much does it cost to replace an alternator in a 1994 Nissan Maxima in Alabama?

A: Price of the actual alternator +plus+ about 1-2 hours labor. Labor hours for this kind of thing would be from $40 - $50

Q: Why did my 1994 Nissan Maxima's coolant start to boil and smoke?
hey i was recently driving my car and my A/C did not work. Not only that the fans did not even work. Today I pulled over on the side of the street and my coolant started to smoke and boil. Not sure what I should do I dont have alot of money to spend on fixing this.. What do you think?

A: Check to see if the fans on the back of your radiator are working. If not, that could have caused the coolant to overheat and boil. Hopefully that is the case and your car has some electrical problem somewhere. This would be your best case scenario in regards to repair cost. The worst case scenario could be engine problems leading to overheating which then caused both the boiling coolant and electrical problems. (fans not working, AC not working, etc...) What is your temperature gauge reading? If your engine is running hot then you are causing damage by running it. Check the fusebox either somewhere under the steering wheel, and/or in the engine bay and check for blown fuses. If that doesnt solve the problem, and you are not mechanically inclined, take the car to a professional, or mechanically inclined friend to find the source of the problem.

Q: Why won't the brake lights shut off on my 1994 Nissan Maxima?
I have a 1994 Nissan Maxima, and the brake lights will not shut off even when the car is off. I unlpugged the battery so it doesn't die but I am wondering what is causing this? I read somewhere that there is a switch under the brake pedal that might be stuck? I did not feel a switch under the pedal, and wondering if that only applies to newer cars. I am a chick but pretty good with fixing stuff and have no money to go to a mechanic for atleast 2 months. Please help :)

A: Well, you almost figured it out on your own. Whoever told you about the switch was correct, but the location was a little off. The switch should be located along the rod that attaches to the pedal. Usually these switches can be purchased at an auto parts store, or if all else fails, at a Nissan dealer. Before going out and buying a new switch, you may want to make sure that it didn't just pop off of the rail. These switches are "normally closed". What this means is if it fell off of the rod, it would stay on constantly. Good luck and I hope this helps!

Q: What is the Fuel type that I should use for 1994 Nissan Maxima GXE?
I have a Nissan Maxima 1994 GXE and I dont know which fuel type to use. I bought 89 two times, but the engine was responding very badly, sometimes the car was hesistating to start, sometimes chokes in the road. Shoudl I use 91 or 93? Which one is better for my 94 Nissan Maxima GXE?

A: I'm positive its not 91 or 93. You have the less powerful Maxima. Its got a 160 hp 3.0L V6. The more powerful SE has a 190 hp 3.0L V6. Your car needs a tune up and 87.
