Q: How do you clean fuel injectors on a 1999 nissan maxima?

A: Get a bottle of STP Fuel Injector Cleaner. It works great.

Q: on a 1999 nissan maxima why would the catalytic converter turn blood red and the car cranks but cuts off?
it will run for while and the cataylic converter will turn completely red and the car cuts off

A: Is the check engine light flashing? Do you have a misfire? If yes on either, then it's probably dumping fuel into the exhaust, and burning it in the catalytic converter. This will overheat the converter, causing it to glow red. This will also foul or clog the converter, thus requiring replacement. But first fix the root problem before replacing the converter.

Q: how to replace the starter on a 1996-1999 Nissan Maxima?
Is the starter accessible from the top of the engine bay, or from the bottom? If it's accessible from both places, which is the easiest to access? Are there any diagrams/schematics online that show the replacement process/instructions? -Many thanks

A: Starter should be underneath on the back side of the engine, it will be right where the transmission and the engine meet. The easiest way to get to it will be to crawl under it. Most starters are only two bolts to remove, some are a few more, just remember where the wires are located on the existing starter, and swap them over. Put the new starter in place of the old one. New starts will come with 'shims' which are small spacers usually, if you start the car and you hear grinding, your starter gear might be too close to your flexplate, proper gap between gears will remove that noise, too much gap will bring that noise back. Good luck.

Q: 1999 Nissan Maxima backflow?
I have a 1999 Nissan Maxima (VQ30DE 3.0l V6) with custom headers, a catback exhaust, and a highflow catalytic converter. I was wondering if it is possible for me to be losing power due to the lack of backpressure that is seen on a stock exhaust.

A: Yes, some fuel injected and carburated engines like a certain amount of backpressure. Without it, the engine is not running as efficiently as it should. Will cause a drop in horsepower that is noticeable on the dyno, or to a trained driver.

Q: What size rear speakers are in the 1999 nissan maxima?
they might be 6x9 or 6x8 but i have no clue and i need to buy new speakers its the premium stereo system not the base

A: Three Speakers in back shelf. Two 6 inch and 8 inch woofer. BOSE system has ampifilers so your speakers must be able to work with the bose ohms requirement.

Q: How do I replace a antenna mast on a 1999 nissan maxima gle?

A: Remove antenna nut and antenna base. Withdraw antenna rod while raising it by operating antenna motor. INSTALLATION Lower antenna rod by operating antenna motor. Insert gear section of antenna rope into place with it facing toward antenna motor. As soon as antenna rope is wound on antenna motor, stop antenna motor. Insert antenna rod lower end into antenna motor pipe. Retract antenna rod completely by operating antenna motor. Install antenna nut

Q: Looking For An Exhaust Part For a 1999 Nissan Maxima?
Hello all. I am in a pickle here and hope that someone may be able to help me out. My son has a 1999 Nissan Maxima with California emissions exhaust system that had been modified and we're trying to get it back to 'inspectability'. What we need is a Nissan part (14008). Unfortunately Nissan wants close to 1K$ for the part -- way out of my son's budget. I'm assuming that because it's California Emissions that the part would only be available in the California area. If someone can help, or stir us in the right direction, I would greatly appreciate it. My son brought the car will all the modifications, not realizing that it was not inspectable. Thanks in advance, G I forgot to mention, I am on the east coast. That's way getting this part as a OEM is a little difficult. As I mentioned, Nissan can get it for me but at a higher cost

A: Unfortunately, your son may have a vehicle he can't drive in CA now and has learned a very expensive lesson if he purchased it 'as is'. The only possibility would be if the seller didn't disclose that it would not pass inspection he may be entitled to get the sale reversed and his money back. Contact the state attorney's office.

Q: I have a turbo 1999 nissan maxima SE and was wondering was there anywhere to get stronger gears for the tranny
I broke third gear and had it replaced but was wonder ing do they make a perfomance set of gears to last longer and withstand the horsepower my maxima makes 485 hp on 9 punds of boost but dont want to risk blowing another tranny gear is there anyone who has answer

A: the answer is yes but.... they are not that easy to find, if you to a good speed shop not the regular speed shop who only sell intakes, euro lights and that kid stuff the gears you want are forged and they can be found but they are hard to find and expensive too i have a glc running 10 secs on the 1/4 and the gears they guy on the speed shop find them for me so i know you can find yours too

Q: How do you remove a car stereo from a 1999 Nissan Maxima SE?
If someone could tell me how to do it or direct me to a site that will explain I would really appreciate it.

A: follow this instructions http://www.installdr.com/InstallDocs/Nissan/PDF/647021.pdf

Q: What would the labor cost be to replace a starter in a 1999 Nissan Maxima?
A friend has done the work on the car for me and I want to know what a regular mechanic would charge for the work so I know what a fair payment would be. I have already paid him for the part itself.

A: a mechanic's rate is about $50 an hour

Q: What does the blinking air bag light mean on a 1999 Nissan Maxima?
The airbag light (below the spedometer) is blinking on and off while the car is on. Does this just mean the airbag is on?

A: This means that a problem has been detected in the system and service should be performed. When the flashing is occurring the system may not operate in case of an accident. My suggestion is to take it to a qualified service center for repair. Good luck

Q: In a 1999 Nissan Maxima when is it necessary to replace the ignition coils?

A: Rough idle, misfire, check engine light like a P1320 primary ignition code or P0300 random misfire and any P0301 to P0306 #1 to #6 Cly misfire. Any of the above are reasons to replace coils don't forget new spark plugs while you're there! Now the word of warning any misfire will cause a cat converter to overheat. So 167 dollars each for 6 coils may become 1000's if by neglecting a rough running engine causes a cat converter to fail P0420 or P0430 trouble code. Your car probably has a knock sensor code P0325 but that wont turn on a check engine light.

Q: How come some 1999 Nissan Maxima's have spoilers? (a bunch of questions about this car below)?
I've seen some with and without spoilers and i don't get it. (all used) Or were they all with them and they take them off? Or was it a feature? I'm looking for a used one for my teenage daughter as her first car. She wants one with a spoiler and in black. Are they good cars? Reliable? Too long to park? If you had one yourself, that'd be great too to put in any other added information. Thanks so much! http://images.google.com/imgres?imgurl=http://www.greghome.com/images/Maxima%2520Pics/MainPage/BlackMax4.jpg&imgrefurl=http://www.greghome.com/Greg%27s%2520Garage/1999%2520Nissan%2520Maxima%2520SE/1999%2520Maxima%2520SE.htm&h=482&w=720&sz=150&hl=en&start=1&um=1&usg=__P1t3pgY0C7FLyhBWxozSt7uIeo0=&tbnid=x12tiVCoMQIKfM:&tbnh=94&tbnw=140&prev=/images%3Fq%3D1999%2Bblack%2Bnissan%2Bmaxima%26um%3D1%26hl%3Den%26client%3Dsafari%26rls%3Den-us%26sa%3DG

A: They are some of the most reliable cars on earth. The VQ30DE engine is used on all 1995-1999 models, displaces 3 liters, makes 190hp and 205ft/lbs of torque and is about as reliable as engines get and also has been on Ward's 10 Best Engines since the list was first made in 1995. That's 13 years of winning, the only engine that has accomplished this. Spoilers have been optional on Maximas for as long as I can remember. On the 89-94 models there are two trims GXE and SE. The SE is considered the better of the two and all of them have spoilers and a dual tip muffler which is how I usually differentiate them. I'm reading up on the 1999 and it seems to work the same way however there is a third trim, GLE which if my memory serves correctly is a more luxury oriented model (the SE is traditionally considered sporty and has firmer suspension and is otherwise less appealing to non-enthusiasts). Here's a list of what I found as far as the trim level differences GXE CD Player optional Sunroof optional Leather & Power Seats optional Automatic Transmission optional ABS optional 15" Wheels (optionally alloy) Spoiler optional Fog Lights optional SE CD Player standard Sunroof optional Leather & Power Seats optional Automatic Transmission optional ABS optional Traction Control optional 16" Alloy Wheels Spoiler standard Fog lights standard? GLE CD Player standard Sunroof standard Leather & Power Seats standard Automatic Transmission standard ABS optional Traction Control optional Keyless Entry standard 15" Alloy Wheels Spoiler optional Fog Lights optional The way I see it the GXE should be avoided since what teenager has a cassette collection these days? Between the SE and the GLE it's a relatively hard choice, anything that is standard on the SE is optional on the GLE but keyless entry is exclusive to the GLE. In my opinion Maximas are pretty hard to park and if you live in a state where parallel parking is a must you may want to look for something smaller but in Florida where I've had to parallel park my car probably twice that wasn't just in front of my house parking is a breeze with the Maxima. I really think that a Maxima is one of the best cars a parent can give assuming they are paying for gas, Maximas get good mileage for their size and power but they are far from the 40+ mpg a compact Honda Civic can get (expect mid 20s if your daughter doesn't have a lead foot). As I've said the cars last forever and you can never really outgrow one - unlike plenty of other cars that teens tend to get and "pimp" out only to sell a few years later cause they get married and have kids and don't have room for a car seat in their coupe. Also, the model you are looking at is very easy to find aftermarket parts for if your daughter did take an interest in car tuning at some point. Replacement parts come easy as well since when Nissan makes an engine they use it for about a decade so if you ever need to replace a part you can go the the junkyard and find what you need with relative ease.

Q: Where can I buy chrome accents for a 1999 Nissan Maxima?
I just bought a 1999 Nissan Maxima SE and wanted to get some chrome accent pieces such as door handles, grille, etc. I noticed some 1999 models have them, maybe the GXE model? Any help would be great, thanks.

Q: Replacement car key for 1999 Nissan Maxima?
I need a replacement key for my Nissan Maxima (1999). I've bee n told that it is not a normal key and needs to be purchased directly from Nissan. Is this true or can I have my current key copied at the local hardware store at a much cheaper cost? Thanks for the help.

A: If you want your key to look al fancy then yea go to nissan. But i had this same car last year and i just got a key made at my local hardware store that worked fine and saved me a lot of money, so goodluck.
