Q: 1996-1999 Nissan Pathfinder, Does anyone have input on this model?
Now that gas is going down to normal, i can finally get the kind of vehicle that i REALLY want which is a good ol mid size SUV. I have always loved the pathfinder ever since my uncle brought his brand new 1993 Nissan Pathfinder. I was looking into getting maybe a 2001-2004 with the 240 HP engine but i was told that i should not rule out the 1996-1999 model. Does anyone have input? I heard that the 1996-1999 is a little underpowered. I drove the 2001-2004 and those things FLY.

A: I have never had one but always wanted one and I have been told my many people including mechanics that the 96-99 model is the best one Nissan made in regards to quality and longevity. If you can find one with low miles I would buy it. Plus, they are nicer looking than the newer ones in my opinion.

Q: 1996 nissan pathfinder SE vs 1998 toyota rav 4, which one should i get?
here's the situation: 1. this would be my first car purchase 2. my budget is $5,000 - $6,0000 3. i really want an SUV (i just feel safer) so i found these 2 cars and here's their comparison: 1. 1996 pathfinder has 107K miles, 1998 rav 4 has 137K miles 2. 1996 pathfinder costs 4,000, 1998 rav 4 costs 5,800 3. i'll be the 3rd owner of the pathfinder, i'll be the 4th owner of the rav 4 4. pathfinder had never had an accident the rav 4 had but accdg to carfax it's just a mild accident. 5. pathfinder is sold by a private individual, the rav 4 by a dealership 6. rav4 has a 60-day warranty other notes: 1. both of them are automatic 2. both are four-wheel drive which one do you think i should get? performance-wise and considering all the parameters/notes i have listed above? thanks! i REALLY like how the rav4 looks but i know i should concentrate on their performance and safety rather than on the exterior..... but i have no idea w/c of these two SUVs performs well... oh, and i'll just use it just for short distances (work, train station, malls) not long drives...

A: I'd go with the Pathfinder. The RAV4 is a good SUV, but I can't let go of the fact that its being sold by a dealer and you're likely to have more problems with the RAV4 in the future. The warranty is worthless. I'd have the Pathfinder taken to a mechanic and if he lets you then its likely the seller isn't trying to hide anything from you and will be a good buy. For what its worth, I consider the Pathfinder to be one of the most reliable and trouble free SUVs in the mid size class.

Q: Swaying problem with 1996 Nissan Pathfinder! HELP!?
I have a 1996 Pathfinder 4 wheel drive with 120,000 miles on it that has a "sway" problem. The sway can occur at any time but usually on the highway (at any speed). The body starts rocking side to side and if the speed is maintained, it gets gets worse. Letting off the gas or increasing speed will make it stop. The truck has new shocks and struts but the problem has not improved. The front end was just aligned and checked for suspension wear. Tires have been balanced and rotated. Has any one else exhibited this problem or have any ideas? Thanks. I also put a new stabilizer bar on the rear but still no improvement.

A: My car did the samething, I had noticed that my rear stabilizer bar was not intact...turns out I had hit a dip and snapped the bolts to it.went to the deal, spent 50 bucks on bolts and rubber boots and put the bar back in place per my Haynes manual. fixed the problem for me hope this helps

Q: How much is a paint job for a 1996 nissan pathfinder?
Preferably a two tone paint job

A: it honestly depends on were you go, what color you get, if you get a gloss coat etc... just a normal every day paint job would be around$400-$800 two tone might be an extra 100-300 again depending on were you go

Q: Does anyone know where the factory amp is located in a 1996 Nissan Pathfinder?
I changed the factory speakers and they worked for about 2 weeks, all of a sudden there is no sound. I want to check the factory amp to see if a fuse is blown there.

A: Don't bother--the factory amp doesn't have a built-in fuse. The amp fuse will be in one of the vehicle's fuse boxes. There are actually two amplifiers; one for the rear speakers and one for the fronts. Both are located underneath the panel on the passenger side of the cargo area, forward of the jack compartment.

Q: what are the symtoms of a bad starter and/or alternator on a 1996 nissan pathfinder?
My car sounds like it is trying to turn over but will not. I have power.

A: all cars beleive it or not have about the same type of symptoms... starter-click and that all you get it has gone out alternantor- dies when running, no power, sometimes if seized thrown belt. battery low juice not enough to turnm car over eventually no power. sounds like a number of things could be your problem take it to your local auto zone or advanced auto parts they will check your alternator and battery for free you do not want to buy an alterantor when it was just your battery and vice versa. good thing if there are warrenties on those parts when you buy em and they are easy to replace

Q: 1996 Nissan pathfinder dies at 35 MPH what is the most likely cause?
I have all ready replaced the fuel filter and fuel sending unit My wife is out of town with the car but I am told once you put in gear and get up to 30 to 35 MPH it just dies.

A: did you replace the fuel pump or the sending unit,a bad sending unit wont cause it to die at a certain speed,a bad fuel pump will, and so will about twenty other things ,have that one scanned to see what computer codes it might give you,it may help you to solve this problem, and auto zone will scan it for free, you don't have a thing to loose from doing it good luck with it,

Q: How much does it cost to replace the rack and pinion on my 1996 Nissan Pathfinder?
I only need to replace the rack and pinion on the left side which is the driving side.

A: If your going to change it out yourself,it shouldn't be over a$100.I find that the best way is to get the parts first. The new boot and tie - rod Jack your car up and remove the tire .Then remove the tie-rod from the spindle. Before you start to screw the tie-rod out of the rack & pinion be sure to measure the amount that you screw out so you can put it back just the same amount. This will help you to keep it in aligne.

Q: I have a 1996 Nissan Pathfinder (automatic), it does not go in Reverse. What seems to be the problem?
The car is an automatic transmission. Whenever I put it in reverse, it does not automatically kick in. If it does go into reverse, I have to give it gas. Sometimes it moves in reverse, sometimes it does not. Can someone help me understand what the problem may be.

A: If your problem is only associated with reverse (assuming all other positions, D,1,2 etc. are working fine), most probably your transmission needs servicing. There is a forward clutch associated with reverse gear on automatic transmission, and this may be malfunctioning. Since you can move with more gas, the fault may be with a control valve for the forward clutch for reverse. Faulty electrical signals also can make reverse malfunction, which needs replacing transmission control module (computer board) in extreme cases. A rule of thumb, if you happen to notice malfunction or abnormalities in the automatic transmission, get it checked by a qualified auto mechanic. This can save you from lot of headaches and save lot of money on expensive repairs later on.
