Q: Remote Entry for 2002 Nissan Xterra - how much does it cost to replace one?
I bought a car with a remote entry and I tried replacing the battery in the unit but the door still did not work. It looks like i will have to replace the whole unit. Does anyone know how much these cost at the dealerships or is there anyone else that fixes them. Thank you
A: have you tried to reprogram the remote(s)? You may need a set of two new remotes. Yes always have an extra set of keys and remotes. E-mail me and I will foward you instructions so you can reprogram your existing remote to see if it still works and additional remotes you get at the dealer for 90 each or off of e-bay for less. jp.hudson@sbcglobal.net
Q: Why does my 2002 Nissan XTERRA's engine make a whistle sound when the air is on?
When i turn my air on the engine makes sort of a whistling sound, does anyone who knows what they're doing with cars have any idea what may be the cause of this?

I hit the OD button on my shifter knob and when I do that, nothing happens. Should a light come on or something. How will I know when it is working. Thank You
A: Sometimes there are no indicator lights. I dont know if the extera has one or not. but generally you can tell if its on if you got past 45mph, the cars is going rev really high. generally its a matter of the button pushed in or not. see if that works
Q: How do you replace the suspension bushings in a 2002 Nissan Xterra - is this easy to do and is it costly?
Is this a job for a novice or do you recommend me taking it to the dealership or is this routine work for a local auto shop. My car is squeaking alot when I hit bumps so I am assuming its time for new bushings. Do you think this subject is covered in Chilton's or any other repair manuals. Thank You
A: squeaking is not an indicator of wore out bushing part. Extra wheel movement or 'walking' or uncontrollable steering etc is ususally indicate wore out bushing. Usually 10+ years old and over 150k miles is when bushing start to wear out but there are always some premature wear. I would just start by going around the truck and bounce one each corner of the truck to see where the noise is at then drive it on ramps and look under it....something to start with.
Q: How can I get better fuel mileage with my 2002 nissan xterra?
What fuel and/or exhaust modifications increase mileage? Any tips?
A: KN air filter, Synthetic motor oil, Narrow street tires, lighten the load, drive slow and smoother.
Get rid of it while you can.

There are two screws that appear to hold the light cover on, but even after removal it will not come off. Any help appreciated. Thanks.
A: if you go to Autozone or some place like that they won't charge you for helping fix it

A: this vehicle uses 134-a , when you open the hood, the adapters should be on your left towards the firewall.
if you buy the kit for $20 @ autozone it will give you instructions.

Q: Help! How can I fix the lights on my 2002 Nissan Xterra XE?
Hi,
My 2002 Nissan Xterra XE has recently had some serious electrical problems. The dashboard lights, left hand brake light, and tail lights all stopped working at roughly the same time. The headlights work, but the car no longer beeps if I leave them on when I park.
Since so many lights are involved, I doubt it's the bulbs, and none of the fuses are blown.
Any thoughts? I need to get it fixed soon but don't have a ton of money to spend on a mechanic.

A: Your very smart- whenevr you purchase a second hand vehicle you should get a major service. It should run you $600-800 nopt including if you need brakes or rotors. Don't let the 90k scare you-nissans are good for 200-300k.take it to a dealership not a jiffy lube (they are only good for oil changes). A: Nobody currently sells a kit larger then 3 inches. However, if you use a 3" body lift in combination with a 3" suspension lift you can get 6 inches.

I tried to do it for you and came up with a price around $9,500. I may not have used the correct trim line and included all the options. That's why I suggest you do it as well. A: Seems like you done some homework, I like that its something other buyers lack and then blame all their mistakes on the dealer.
92K on an Xterra is acceptable with twice the mileage to go providing the vehicle is priced right and in excellent condition should be somewhere around the $ 7.5 to $ 8.000. range retail, a dealer may ask more but after negotiations over 8 your paying to much.
